2025 Year in Review: Advancing Canada’s Hydrogen-Diesel Future

As 2025 draws to a close, Diesel Tech Industries (DTI) reflects on a year defined by progress, collaboration, and leadership in advancing hydrogen-diesel retrofit technology across Canada’s transportation sector.

From technical demonstrations to national policy discussions, DTI has continued to champion the integration of hydrogen as a practical and scalable solution for heavy-duty fleets. Through ongoing engagement, strategic partnerships, and innovation, DTI’s Guardian Hydrogen Diesel System (HDS) is helping pave the way toward a cleaner, more efficient transportation future.

Driving Awareness and Industry Collaboration

DTI began the year by amplifying hydrogen-diesel awareness through a series of high-impact industry events.

At the Future Fuels Forum in Prince George, Kelly Wry joined the panel on “Transportation Sector & the Use of New Fuels,” sharing insights into the challenges and opportunities of integrating hydrogen with diesel powertrains.

Rebecca Goldsack, DTI’s COO, presented at Hydrogen in Transportation: Driving Automation!, showcasing the automation and data-driven capabilities of the Guardian HDS. She later participated in the Hydrogen Manufacturing Symposium hosted by Edmonton Global and EMC, where she emphasized the importance of regional manufacturing and supply chain development to support Alberta’s hydrogen economy.

In March, at the Clean Fuels Summit in Calgary, DTI highlighted real-world results from Alberta’s first heavy-duty hydrogen retrofit demonstrations—offering tangible proof that decarbonization is achievable with today’s technology.

Leadership on the National Stage

The Canadian Hydrogen Convention (CHC) in April marked a milestone for both DTI and Alberta’s hydrogen industry. Rebecca joined a strategic panel alongside leaders from CPKC, US Hybrid, HTEC, and AMTA to discuss scaling hydrogen for long-haul and industrial transportation.

DTI also announced its partnership with Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to retrofit runway sweepers with Guardian HDS—supported by Alberta Innovates—a groundbreaking step toward hydrogen adoption in airport operations. Rebecca’s technical presentation drew strong attention, and her contributions to the industry were recognized with the Hydrogen Leader of the Year Award. The City of Edmonton, a DTI partner, received the Early Adopters Award, underscoring the collaborative momentum behind hydrogen innovation in Alberta.

Policy and Advocacy for Hydrogen Growth

Beyond technology deployment, DTI has been active in shaping policy frameworks to support hydrogen adoption. As Chair of Hydrogen Alberta, Rebecca played a key role in developing the Hydrogen Fuel Funding Framework (H2FF), a proposed program designed to help achieve cost parity for hydrogen fuel in Alberta.

DTI worked alongside partners to submit letters and recommendations to government bodies, advocating for mechanisms that reduce hydrogen costs and make adoption more accessible for fleet operators. These efforts continue to position DTI as both a technical and policy leader in Canada’s clean energy transformation.

Expanding Awareness Across Canada

DTI’s outreach extended throughout the year with participation in multiple regional and national events.

At the Nisku Energy Show, Dean Ervin highlighted the Snow Mauler Project, DTI’s ongoing collaboration with Edmonton International Airport to demonstrate hydrogen use in airport operations.

In June, Rebecca represented DTI at Hy-fcell Canada in Vancouver and participated in the Hydrogen Pricing Roundtable hosted by Dr. Nirmal Gnanapragasam (Canadian Nuclear Laboratories), where she contributed strategies to make hydrogen more affordable and scalable across the country.

Later that month, Alberta celebrated the launch of its first-ever modular hydrogen fueling station, developed by Azolla Hydrogen Ltd. and supported by industry and municipal partners.

Building Momentum Through Fall Engagement

Throughout the fall, DTI continued to strengthen industry relationships and public awareness.

At the Creative Truck Performance event in Regina, run by Evan Grant, Kelly Wry engaged directly with drivers and fleet operators to showcase the Guardian HDS in action.

DTI’s leadership team—Rebecca Goldsack, Colin Coros, and Trevor Kloeck—shared export insights at the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub Export Meet-Up, promoting collaboration across Alberta’s growing hydrogen ecosystem.

At CUTRIC’s Western Transit Innovation Summit, Rebecca contributed to the panel “Alberta Hydrogen: Powering the Frontier of Heavy-Duty Mobility,” addressing both opportunities and challenges in heavy-duty hydrogen adoption. DTI also participated in Carbon Capture Canada, reinforcing the synergy between carbon management and hydrogen fuel innovation.

Celebrating Alberta’s Hydrogen Leadership

October was a defining month for Alberta’s hydrogen community. DTI proudly joined the inaugural Hydrogen Alberta Day, co-hosted by Hydrogen Alberta, the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub, and the Calgary Region Hydrogen Hub—a major step toward unifying hydrogen stakeholders across the province.

As part of the Canadian Hydrogen Association’s Hydrogen Day on the Hill in Ottawa, Rebecca joined over 30 CHA members in high-level meetings with federal ministers and agencies to discuss accelerating Canada’s hydrogen economy.

The month concluded with a Hydrogen Roundtable at the Alberta Legislature, where DTI contributed to discussions on enabling hydrogen growth through regulatory clarity, market development, and export pathways—alongside Ministers Nathan Neudorf, Brian Jean, and Dale Nally.

Looking Ahead

Through every event, project, and partnership, Diesel Tech Industries continues to demonstrate leadership in hydrogen-diesel innovation and advocacy. By combining practical retrofit solutions with collaborative policy engagement, DTI is helping to build a foundation for Canada’s clean transportation future. DTI is looking forward to 2026 as a leader in clean tech for transportation, with many new and exciting partnerships and projects spanning across Canada coast to coast.
